Schools, universities, insurers and law firms

International schools have excellent counselling teams that occasionally meet a case beyond what they can hold alone: suspected ADHD that needs a medical diagnosis, an eating disorder in its early stages, a diagnosis made in another country that does not fit, a medication started in another system and never reviewed, or a pupil deteriorating far from their extended family and their own language, among many others. These situations are frequent and hard to resolve from within. I am available for them, as a physician and in four languages.

Anxiety that does not settle and needs medical assessment, a first serious episode thousands of kilometres from home, treatment started in the home country with nobody to continue it, or a report needed before an academic accommodation can be granted. I take those cases in four languages, and I sit on the referral list of the institutions I work with.

A paediatric file in English, Spanish, German or French that has to be translated before it can be assessed, a treatment proposed in another country on which an independent opinion is needed, or a family that has to be interviewed and does not speak the insurer's language. I read the file in the language it was written in and deliver a written opinion to deadline.

A minor whose mental state has to be assessed in proceedings between two countries, a foreign report the other side disputes, or an interview with the child which, conducted through an interpreter, is open to challenge. I prepare independent psychiatric assessments to the standard the receiving court expects, and I interview the child in their mother tongue.

A relocation that depends on the children settling, which nobody has asked about, an adolescent who breaks down in the first year of an assignment, or a family that needs clinical care in its own language before the problem reaches HR. I assess the family's fit before departure and remain available throughout the assignment.
